Our Journey to Alaska

Our journey to Juneau began yesterday morning at about 9 am. We spent the night at the Falslev's house and left a little after 9, heading to Newton to load up Brett's bike and take off. We actually got on the road at about 10 am. We headed up through Idaho and Montana and hit the Canadian border at about 6:30. We saw a ton of beautiful country. Just north of Dillon Montana was our favorite part of the drive. Unfortunately, because of our 12 hour drive we didn't stop to take any pictures but it was gorgeous country.
We stayed in Calgary Monday night at a Days Inn. We were so glad to be done driving for the day and have a clean place to rest our weary heads.
Tuesday morning we woke up to cold, rainy weather in Calgary. We weaved our way through the streets of Calgary and finally found our way out of the massive place. We drove through the Banff National Forest for about half of our drive today. It was so gorgeous! It was kind of a rainy day so there was quite a few clouds so we didn't get to see everything but we saw some gorgeous country. Here are a few pictures from our journey:

A statue of Christ carved out of granite in Butte

A bridge just inside of the Banff National Forest

What most of the drive through Banff looks like - GORGEOUS!

Cool mountains in Banff

A bear on the side of the road

Some of our favorite parts about our journey so far:
- seeing elk and big horn sheep in Montana
- the statue of Christ in Butte, Montana
- crossing the border, the patrolman was very serious - not joking around at all
- watching a HUGE tractor drive down the FREEWAY in Canada
- Gorgeous Banff area
- seeing the Elders in some town in Canada
- Old Man River
- Jack Ass Junction
- a town named "Blackie"
- the road signs in Canada
- figuring out the whole killometer thing
- watching a bear for a few minutes hanging out on the side of the road

I told you the patrolmen at the border were nothing but serious! They searched a motorhome that was in front of us when we went through, but we were still worried we would get searched because of the dogs, luckily they just let us through. What an awful job that must be! Can't wait to see you!
